What: Will's chat on TV Guide Online
TV Guide Online: Tonight we are chatting with Will Friedle about his
new TV series Go Fish. Hi Will! Thanks for joining us!
Friedle: Hello. Glad to be here. Finally.
Question: What is your new series about??
Friedle: Go Fish is basically a coming of age story following Kieran
Culkin who is starting his first day in high school and kind of dealing with
how he is going to adapt to high school society. As if that isn't enough,
his older brother, played by moi, is starting in the same school as a
teacher. And by the way, moi is the extent of my French.
Question: How do you like working with your new co-stars for the
show?
Friedle: Everybody was great. I've been very lucky in that every show
I've been on, I've been able to bond with the cast, very quickly.
Question: Hi I was just wondering what kind of life style you live... see
i know people always judge celebrities and they don't even know them
or how they live. I wish you the best of luck in your career. - Melissa
Friedle: That's very sweet Melissa. I live a very simple lifestyle. That's
why instead of one huge mansion, I try to buy a house everywhere I go.
I'm just kidding. I've always lived very simply and that just comes from
the way I was raised. Life comes from how you live it, not what you
have.
Question: The TV show that's coming out is it anything like a TV show
out now? such as Malcolm in the Middle?
Friedle: Actually, yes. It's been compared to a cross between Webster
and the Super Human Samuri Cybersquad. No just kidding we've
been told it's a lot like Malcolm in the Middle, but we hope funnier.
And the Super Human Samurai Cybersquad was my nod to Matthew
Laurence. Man we use to just rag on him all the time. It was just great.
Question: What's the craziest thing a fan has ever done to get to see
you?
Friedle: I don't know about crazy to get to see me, but I've had some
crazy letters. I had one woman, send me a wedding invitation with my
name and her name pictures of her in a wedding dress and a letter
explaining she would leave her husband and kids for me. We'll be
married in March. Just kidding.
Question: What is your favorite kind of cheese? ;-)
Friedle: American. Good old fashioned American. If it doesn't come
individually wrapped, it ain't cheese. PS The stuff in the can is good too.
Question: Will, first off I want to say I miss not seeing Boy Meets
World. Anyways, I was on this message board and basically everyone
wants to know why you fear water...so why? =) By the way keep up
the great work!!!!
Friedle: What is that about? I was doing radio interviews yesterday
and one of the disc jockeys asked me why I was so afraid of water, and
I started laughing, cause I had no idea what he was talking about. Then
he told me he read a story that I said I would never live in a place that
had a pool. And what the story was, what I said, is that the building I
moved into in Los Angeles, didn't have a pool. When I asked the owner
why he didn't put one in, he said it was because a 2 year old boy
drowned in the pool in the last building. So he said he'd never live in a
place with a pool again. Apparently, they thought that was me. I am
afraid of a lot of things. snakes, spiders, actresses, and the color purple.
But I'm not afraid of water. And thank god, or boy would I stink.
Question: So now that Boy Meets World is over, other than Go Fish
and Batman Beyond...what else have u been up to?
Friedle: I've started a new cartoon for the Disney Channel, called Kim
Possible. That's her name. That will be airing in January 2002. In my
free time I like to sleep, mister...or misses. Whichever you are.
Question: Do people always want to stereotype you into the goofy
character of "Eric" on BMW?
Friedle: There were times when the show was still on that many people
who came up and spoke to me, spoke very very slowly. I think they
thought it was really Eric. But I've been very lucky in that I have not
been typecast. For instance in Go Fish, I play a teacher.
Question: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it
be?
Friedle: My body. I've always had a bad body, since I was about 11
years old, I've been struggling with my weight and from the end of the
first episode of Go Fish, one which you won't see cause it was our
presentation pilot for the network, that was about 7 months ago, I've
already lost 50 lbs, but I still have more work and if I could change
anything, that's what it would be.
Question: Do you think that this show GO FISH will become a big hit?
Friedle: I think the show has all of the elements of a hit show. The
scripts are very funny. My fellow cast are absolutely wonderful actors.
And the directors really know what they're doing. So if you follow
everything in this business, probably not.
Question: Do you have a girlfriend?
Friedle: No. I do not have a girlfriend. It's very difficult to meet women
in Los Angeles, that are not actresses. And believe me, I've looked.
Question: Who are your favorite actors? Singers?
Friedle: My favorite actors and singers. Let start with singers. That's
the easiest for me to name. Having two older brothers, I was raised on
one type of music. I didn't have the luxury of picking my own. My
brothers decided I would be into 70s and 80s punk. One of my favorite
bands of all time if not my favorite. is called Husker Du. Most of you
are now are saying who? But every time you listen to Pearl Jam,
Nirvana, any of those alternative bands, that play ad nauseum on radio,
you're hearing the roots of Husker Du. As for actors, I split it up into
categories, film, television, and porn. No I'm kidding, let's just do
television. As for film, my favorite actors may not be who you expect.
While I love De Niro, Pacino, and all the big guys. Some of the smaller
guys are my favorite. Kurt Russell. He's one of the coolest men of all
time. I really like George Clooney although I guess he's not one of the
smaller ones now.
Friedle: And I will always have a special place in my heart for Bill
Murray, Chevy Chase, and Steve Martin.
Question: If you could go back in time for one event, what would you
go back for?
Friedle: Oh yeah. I love these questions. If I could go back for one
moment in time...man that's hard. I would probably go back to the time
of Cleopatra, stand on the banks of the Nile, and watch Marc Anthony
and Caesar battle it out one last time. Then I would find Cleopatra and
ask: Hey are you seeing anyone? At that point, she probably kick my
asp.
TV Guide Online: Thank you Will! Can't wait to see tonight's
premiere! Please come back and talk soon!
Friedle: Thank you very much. I'd love to come back and I hope
everyone enjoys the show tonight. And thanks for taking the time to talk
to me onboard.
